We are so excited to be starting this new business for homeschooling families!
We've been homeschooling our own family, but when we started, we were disappointed with the offerings for the preschool ages. We ended up making our own lessons for our children, cobbling together different ideas from many different sources. And, in the end, we decided that if we were having difficulties finding the 'perfect' program that perhaps other people were too. So, starting with the basics of what we had already done with our own children, we began the process of formalizing it and organizing it, and can now offer some of it for other families!
We started with preschool literature. Picture books, picture books, and more picture books! In fact, our preschool literature program might just as well be called “Best picture books of all time for Children Ages 3 to 5!” Except that was too long of a name. Reading to a child is one of the best things that a parent can do for them to ensure future success in school and life. Reading good quality books expands a child's world beyond their limited day to day experiences, reaching geographically, and culturally beyond their normal boarders. In addition, it drastically expands a child's vocabulary, oral skills, problem solving, creativity, listening skill, and empathy. There's no down-side to reading to a child except for finding the variety of good books and our program does most of the work for you! Not only does it call out the great books, we provide the book lists free for you to use on your own, as well as links to a free on-line library, so you don't even have to leave your home, should you not wish to.
Even before we finished the Preschool literature program, we'd begun work on other preschool level subjects. Math, Phonics/Reading, Writing, Crafts, Bible, and more.
Art Appreciation, a subject dear to the hearts of followers the Charlotte Mason methods, exposes children to wonderful artwork, and this was another subject we created and is available immediately. Due to copyright issues, we chose to create a program that sends families to the best of the world's art (painted media, specifically) through on-line links rather than print small copies on paper. In the end, using links ended up having the additional benefit of being able to zoom in to find otherwise hidden details, as well as being able to include so many more artwork pieces than we might otherwise have been able to do.
The other subjects are slowly being added as we finish creating them.
Phonics is projected to have the first semester available sometime in late April of 2023. In the first semester, a child will learn the sounds of each letter of the alphabet, through gradual increase in word complexity along with a handful of sight words. So, for example, a child would start with different combinations of 5 letters to make sentences such as “An ant at Ann.” and move up to paragraphs that are decodable with the phonetic skills already learned. In the second semester, which is planned for later in the year, children are taught letter blends, such as 'sh' or 'ee', along with several more sight words.
The more we have created, the more we loved doing it and felt that it was a good enough quality product to bother trying to get it out to other families, which is what we're going to be doing now.
We hope you enjoy these products too! May your homeschooling adventure be productive and enjoyable!
