It all began by a mom struggling to find a homeschool program that fit her family.

Ablaze Home Education was created after an attempt to use several other homeschool programs left our family feeling… dissatisfied. We were looking for something robust, yet flexible. Something that didn’t skimp on the education just because a child was young, but was entertaining enough to minimize the children’s complaints. We wanted Literature that was filled with a multitude of excellent “real” books, a math program that had the repetition required to memorize the basics yet still taught the underlying principles, an English writing program that incorporated phonics, handwriting, grammar, composition and literature, a science and technology program that was aimed at young children. We simply couldn’t find it all in one program. So we began to make our own.

We began with preschool Literature. We combed ‘best of’ lists online, we read a multitude of books to our kids, we made sure the books we selected were in that narrow window between super-simple board books and the more complex (and wordy) Kindergarten level. We then we created a lesson plan that was as flexible as we could make it to fit as many families as we could stretch it to include.

Even before we’d finished the Literature, we’d begun to create a Phonics program. With the guiding principle that the reading would be decodable for a child just starting out, we created a phonics program that builds only on itself - without allowing a ton of sight words to overwhelm a child at the beginning of their learning.

And once we’d started here, it was just natural to keep on going. Math, art, handwriting and so much more! We decided to make something we wish we’d been able to find and then offer it for anyone else who also wanted more. This program may not fit everyone, but it was a delight to make and we hope it will benefit other homeschooling families too.

So what do you want to know?

We hope you love the lessons plans and other material we provide as much as we loved creating it!

  • This is a combination of things. We have a touch of Charlotte Mason, we have a bit of Montessori methods, we tend towards spiral teaching rather than mastery teaching (but have some of that too), we like worksheets (but also include hands-on activity ideas - especially for math), we like the idea of combining text books with ‘real, living’ books (especially for history). We absolutely try to make our lessons flexible to work with multiple children of different stages as well as families with flexible scheduling.

  • We are not a Unit Study program.

And, while we are growing, we aren’t a full program yet. We’re creating new elements all the time, but for now, this isn’t a one-stop shop for all your needs.

We’re not liberal. Don’t expect to find the pillars of woke ideology (alphabet soup of gender/sex stuff, socialism idealization, climate hysteria or other politically correct ideas) here.

We’re not atheists. So God is mentioned or assumed in most subjects (see the question on ‘how much or how little religion’ for more information).

  • Yes. This was created by a conservative Christian family. Specifically, a Protestant non-denominational Christian family.

Please see the question on ‘How much or how little religion’ as well as the ‘What are your religious beliefs’ questions for more details.

  • In brief, we are a Protestant, non-denominational family who follow the standard Christian beliefs. Namely:

Jesus death on the cross is the only method of forgiveness of sins. That entrance into Heaven is only through faith in Jesus and his shed blood as being necessary and sufficient for forgiveness by a holy God who would otherwise judge all humanity as undeserving of anything other than wrath.

God is a Triune Being, expressing Himself in three equal persons of Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit.

The Bible is God’s book to humanity and in it we find the words of Life for salvation and godly living.

And there is so much more, including clarifying thoughts on the above. If you want a deeper dive into our Christian beliefs, please follow the link ‘Christianity’

  • While our faith permeates every aspect of the creation of this program (every lesson was prayed over and hopefully guided by God), we don’t think we need to cram a religious lesson into every math problem or spelling word.

So, as an example, in the Preschool Literature, there were probably a small handful of lessons that mention God - sometimes by asking if a child thought God could do an amazing feat, sometimes more subtly by suggesting that bad behavior isn’t an admirable idea. In the Preschool Phonics, one reading lesson says “God can not nap.”, while later another says “Give thanks to God.”

Due to the Bible based world view, when appropriate, there will be praise for good character traits such as kindness and generosity when examining history or literature.

Science is from a Young Earth Creationist view point, but we don’t believe that a person’s position on whether there were dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark is ultimately the most important thing, and so we tend to downplay this belief. In younger grades, we just avoid most long-time terminology or any references to evolution of life from one ‘kind’ to another. Any lessons that deal with this subject will have warnings for parents. In later grades, there will be more discussion about this, including differing points of view. In the future, we plan to offer a high-school level optional course on Creation vs. Evolution.

However, aside from minor inclusions such as this, the majority of the religious content will be found in the Bible lessons.

  • We are conservatives, meaning that you will not find any material included in this program that (knowingly) supports:

    LGBTQ+ agendas

    Critical Race Theory

    Gender Ideologies

    Climate Hysteria

We will only address these issues at age appropriate levels (high school level classes on critical thinking that examines both sides of issues from a logical and Biblical perspective).
